Part 4 : the final 🔩 assembly of the OnTheRoad 4.0

In just one day

I finished the assembly my 🏆 supertouring bicycle

The testride was very succesfull and I had no corrections to make. So I disassembled the complete bike and brought all (all) parts to the powdercoating company.

It is important to have an idea about the real look of the colors you have in mind. I had that idea very clearly since I had visited the powdercoating-company already the week before. Besides that this was already the fourth time I would have a bike painted 👏.

The warehouse where all the powdercoating-powders are stored.

It is very easy to judge powdercoatings colors in realtime. They simply put some powder, ie a teaspoon of it, on a small metal plate and heat that plate from underneath with a small flame. Then just wait a few minutes to let it cool down et voila.

I had workedout some ideas in an online bicycleconfigurator. I actually like somewhat more bright colors, and Bugatti blue and lightgray are quite favorite. But I realized that bright colors would also mean attracting attention which would not be the best idea in case of wildcamping. Another aspect is that powdercoating basically implies that only one color can be applied to any part.

The basic-color would be metallic black

and the contra-color would be metallic gray.

Within 2 hours all parts were gritblasted, degreased, powdercoated, baked for about 20 minutes at 170C and cooled down.
